Several representatives of the Lafayette Chamber were in attendance last night for a presentation on comprehensive planning hosted by City-Parish Councilman Brandon Shelvin.
Local architect Steve Oubre provided the overview which featured the rationale for implementing well-thought out comprehensive plans.
Seven of the nine council members were in attendance, as were Chamber members Marilyn McDonald, Peter Strawitz, and Greg Manuel, as well as Chairman Kam Movassaghi and staff members Bruce Conque and Rob Guidry.
The Chamber is on record urging the council to engage the service of a nationally-recognized community planner to work with the consolidated government staff to draw up a plan and to begin implementation.
Oubre's comment that "development followed quality schools” seemed to garner the most reaction.
He noted architect, who is also a Chamber member, gave numerous examples of cities that were at one time in deplorable condition, but had adopted comprehensive plans and as a result are model communities today.
