Chairman Flo Meadows will lead a series of testimonies at a public hearing tonight to gather public opinion on how to redraw legislative, congressional and other election districts.
The redistricting process must be done every decade and is based on U.S. Census numbers.
Meadows and other chamber representatives will stress the rationale for greater legislative representation, and thus influence, due to the area’s population growth. The Chamber’s position was fashioned through its Governmental Affairs Committee and adopted by the Board of Directors.
The public hearing is being conducted jointly by the state Senate and House of Representatives Governmental Affairs Committees. The hearing will be held at 6:00 PM at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
