Your Chamber's involvement in the community as a representative of business was evident last week on the education, government and cultural fronts.
The Lafayette Parish Schools System is rolling out a volunteer program that facilitates community involvement in the education process. Schools Superintendent Burnell Lemoine and program coordinate Becky Kreamer presented to a special meeting of the Lafayette Public Education School Coalition, a group of independent education stakeholders with a common commitment to improve overall academic achievement, to eliminate the achievement gap and to increase the high school graduation rates of all students. The Lafayette Chamber is a charter member of LaPESC with three member-investors representing us.
The Chamber has been part of the formative stage of the schools volunteer program and is expected to expand its role as the program is implemented this fall.
The final count of applicants for appointment to the Lafayette Charter Commission is 42 including yours truly. Public interviews are scheduled over a four day period beginning June 28th.
I was invited to participate in a strategic planning session for the Hilliard Museum. The ULL museum has obtained grant funding to determine future direction of the cultural facility. A number of individuals throughout Acadiana participated in one of four sessions conducted over two days.
Finally, we have produced a PowerPoint presentation to promote the Chamber to civic groups and community organizations. If you're interested in scheduling the presentation, please contact me at 408-3653 or
