The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the Acadian Home Builders Association, and the REALTOR Association of Acadiana are co-sponsoring a workshop illustrating what it takes to campaign for an elected position. It will be conducted on June 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the South Regional Library in Lafayette.
Experts have been recruited to address the attendees at the workshop:
Louis Perret, Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court will present on the essentials of becoming a candidate.
Jimmy Burland, a political consultant based in Baton Rouge, will discuss campaign financing, political action committees and the overall organization of what it takes to run for political office.
Kathleen Allen, Ethics Administrator for the Louisiana Ethics Commission, will review the state's expectations while serving in a public position.
The event is open to the public at no charge and is an outstanding learning opportunity for those interested in running for political office or in supporting someone's candidacy. Specific attention will be given to the election of Lafayette City-Parish Council members, the Parish President and to the Representative and Senate seats in the Louisiana Legislature; all of which will be on the October 22, 2011 ballot this fall.
Please feel free to forward this memo to anyone you think might be interested in attending. Our goal is to encourage people to become involved in the political process especially that of running for office – whether it's for local or state.
