Representatives of the Lafayette Chamber were present for two significant public hearings last week; the Louisiana Joint Legislative Committee on reapportionment and redistricting and the selection of a firm to craft a Comprehensive Master Plan for Lafayette.
REAPPORTIONMENT / REDISTRICTING
Chamber Chair Flo Meadows informed the joint legislative committee of the Chamber's support of increasing representation in Baton Rouge for Lafayette Parish. Earlier, Chamber staff member Bruce Conque requested same group in Lake Charles to keep Lafayette and Lake Charles together in the same congressional district.

Sandwiched between both hearings was a KPEL Radio interview in which Conque urged public participation. The interview can be heard at http://kpel965.com/bruce-conque-talks-redistricting/.
COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN
The Chamber is finalizing its agenda for the Building Community Conference March 24 &25 in Lake Charles. Lafayette Parish President Joey Durel is expected to select a planner for the project following a day long presentation from four firms last week. |
