Congressman Boustany Eyes Maritime Opportunities - Thursday, January 12, 2012
|
|
U.S. Representative Charles Boustany announced today that he was sponsoring legislation to adequately fund the state's maritime infrastructure. Boustany, representing the 7th congressional district, told a Chamber audience that every foot of the Mississippi River that is not dredged costs the state $1 million per ship.
The congressman's comments were in the context of improving the nation's and the state's global trade position.
Boustany, who chaired the Chamber's Public Policy Division in the mid-1990s, decried the growth of government, the increased taxation on independent oil and gas companies, and the unsustainable regulations on health care providers. According to Boustany, these political issues are causing the nation's "exceptionalism” to be at peril.
The Boustany presentation signals the beginning of the Chamber's "Food For Thought” series of breakfast and lunch offerings for 2012.
This program was sponsored by Gulf Coast Bank.
Congressman Boustany presents 2012 Chairman, Jerry Greig with a Congressional Record of the recognition of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce being named National Chamber of the Year. |
