Empower PAC Endorses Candidates - Friday, October 07, 2011
Empower PAC, the political action arm of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, announces endorsements of political candidates for several local elected offices on the October 22 ballot.

According to guidelines, Empower PAC focuses on Louisiana legislative districts with at least one voting precinct in Lafayette Parish. Additionally, the PAC interviewed candidates for Lafayette City-Parish Council, Lafayette City-Parish President and the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

Empower PAC endorses candidates who are progressive and innovative. The PAC also seeks to promote candidates who are considered to have the best interest of business and the creation of jobs in mind.

Incumbents or candidates that have previously held office where a voting record has been established are automatically granted an Empower PAC endorsement based on an 80 percent or greater cumulative voting record with the Chamber's legislative package. All candidates from the 2011 Voting Record earned an automatic endorsement.

Membership in a political action committee is considered a significant elevation of a citizen's participation in the democratic process. Individuals and companies who support a robust business climate in Lafayette Parish and in Louisiana participate in the PAC.
