Energy Committee Braces For More Bias - Monday, June 06, 2011
While the bias against the energy industry on the national level is well documented it is also evident in Louisiana. One has only to look at the so-called legacy lawsuit issue being debated by the state legislature.

Chamber Vice-President of Public Policy Don Briggs outlined the severity of the issue last week during a meeting of current and prospective members of the Energy Committee.

According to Briggs, lawsuits pending against oil and gas exploration companies are such that insurance is becoming harder to purchase, property owners who deserve compensation for environmental damages are without remedy, and the hundreds of filed lawsuits are sucking the vitality out of the industry.

With the failure of HB 563 by Lafayette Representative Page Cortez this session, the industry has to regroup to fight local attacks as well as those from Washington D.C.
