KATC: Public Education Summit Slated for February - Thursday, February 02, 2012
 An education summit is set for Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Cajundome Convention Center. The goal of the "Public Education Summit 2012 is to give a "front row seat on what's happening in education in the region and allow community members, business leaders and city officials to interact and work together to build a common vision for advancing public education in Acadiana through community collaboration and business partnerships," United Way Marketing & Communication Director Stephanie Mire said.

"Education is the driver for our economic development, our quality of life and our future," United Way of Acadiana President/CEO Margaret Trahan said. "Education deserves our attention and with new leadership in place, there exists a golden opportunity to develop the educational alignment our community needs." The format will include table-top discussions, break out sessions, as well as presentations from Bill Fenstermaker, Billy Stokes, Gregg Gothreaux, Rob Guidry, Margaret Trahan and keynote from Dr. Joseph Savoie. Lafayette Parish Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper, BESE representative Holly Boffy, and SLCC Chancellor Dr. Natalie Harder and other will be there, as well.

The 'Public Education Summit 2012: A Community Dialogue' is presented by Acadiana Technical College, Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce , South Louisiana Community College, United Way of Acadiana and University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The summit is Tuesday, February 28th at the Cajundome Convention Center from 9a.m. to 3p.m. The Summit is open to the public. Seating is limited and reservations and payment must be made online at http://www.lafchamber.org/.
