Local Legislators Expect Tough Session - Thursday, March 10, 2011
Acadiana legislators expect to make tough decisions on the state budget in the upcoming state fiscal session. Seven lawmakers attend the annual Legislative Issues Conference today organized by the Chamber in conjunction with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI). Each spoke about the need to address a rapidly growing government amid a decrease in revenue.

Legislators in attendance included Senators Eric LaFluer and Elbert Guillory, and Representatives Joel Robideaux, Page Cortez, Nancy Landry, Rickey Hardy and Simone Champagne.

Lawmakers were also focused on the special legislative session on redistricting which will precede the regular session. Also, featured on the agenda were LABI President Dan Juneau and Taxation and Finance Council Director John LeBlanc.

Juneau said he was bullish on the Louisiana economy in the future. However, he indicated that increased federal intrusion and biased energy policy could stymie that growth.

The regular session convenes on Monday, April 25th.
