Political Workshop Insightful for Interested Public - Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Seventy five citizens listened intently as three political campaign experts illustrated what it takes to campaign for an elected position last night at the South Regional Library.

The workshop was co-sponsored by The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the Acadian Home Builders Association and the REALTOR Association of Acadiana.

Louis Perret, Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court, presented on the essentials of becoming a candidate; Jimmy Burland, a political consultant based in Baton Rouge, discussed campaign financing, political action committees and the overall organization of what it takes to run for political office; and Kathleen Allen, Ethics Administrator for the Louisiana Ethics Commission, reviewed the state's expectations while serving in a public position.

"This workshop was an exceptional learning opportunity for those interested in running for political office or anyone looking to support someone's candidacy. We are all very pleased with the outstanding attendance of quality citizens,” said Bruce Conque, Chamber VP of Marketing and Governmental Relations.

Specific attention was be given to the election of Lafayette City-Parish Council members, the Parish President and to the Representative and Senate seats in the Louisiana Legislature; all of which will be on the October 22 ballot this fall.
