The Advertiser: Area business groups to form super region - Monday, February 20, 2012
Representatives of several area business groups have announced that the Greater Southwest Louisiana Super Region will be established at a special event on Friday.

Members of chambers of commerce and economic development entities along the Interstate 10 corridor will pledge cooperation on regional initiatives.

The event is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Crowley City Hall.

"We seek to connect with one another and encourage greater participation in the region's future,” said Rob Guidry, president of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, in a statement. "We want to formally acknowledge that the region's resources, institutions, assets and people are intertwined.”

In the statement, organizers said the idea of a super region began about three years ago. Those conversations escalated during the recent special state legislative session on Congressional redistricting.

The super region will include Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes. The event is hosted by the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, the Acadiana Regional Alliance and Acadiana Economic Development.
